Disability Insurance

Disability coverage provides a continuing source of income if the employee becomes unable to work due to a total disability. The Texas Income Protection Plan (TIPP) is administered by The Reed Group.

Enrollment

New full-time employees are eligible to enroll in these plans during their 31-day enrollment period no with Evidence of Insurability (EOI).

If you do not enroll during your initial enrollment period, you can apply through Evidence of Insurability (EOI) during the annual summer enrollment period.

About TIPP

TIPP is composed of two parts:

  • Short-Term Disability
  • Long-Term Disability

TIPP includes a 30- or 180-calendar-day elimination period. A pre-existing conditions clause does apply.

If you are unable to work due to a total disability and file for benefits, you must:

  • Be certified as totally disabled by an approved practitioner
  • Complete the waiting period of your sick leave or 30 consecutive days (180 days for long-term disability), whichever is greater
  • Be approved by The Reed Group for the benefit
