What is ESOL?

ESOL classes teach academic English.

Choose ESOL if you want to:

• Improve your English reading, writing and grammar skills
• Practice your vocabulary and pronunciation
• Build confidence in your English skills
• Be prepared to take courses at TCC to earn a degree or certificate

What ESOL classes does TCC offer?

We offer ESOL classes focused on:

• Oral Communication
• Grammar
• Reading & Vocabulary
• Writing

Each skill has lower advanced, middle advanced, and upper advanced levels to meet your needs.

After successfully completing the ESOL courses, you will be ready to take college-credit courses.

Does TCC offer ESOL classes online?

We will begin offering some ESOL classes online for Fall 2024.

Every class may not be offered at every TCC campus every semester.

What classes do I take if I am an F-1 visa student?

If you are on an F-1 visa and did not meet the English proficiency admission standards, you will enroll in our Language Pathway Program.

How do I register for ESOL classes?

1. Apply to TCC.
2. Take the TSI Assessment or Michigan English Placement Test (M-EPT) at your campus's Testing Center. These tests will place you into a class that best meets your abilities.
3. Register for ESOL classes.
