Student Rights & Responsibilities Statement
In order to create a positive climate for learning, students are expected to abide by all rules and regulations. TCC has the responsibility and authority to create and enforce expectations of student conduct necessary to fulfill the educational goals of the College and uphold the rights of others on campus.
Our philosophy acknowledges the existence of both rights and responsibilities, which is inherent to an individual as a student at TCC, but also as a member of our community. Failure to comply with these rules and regulations may be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the College.
Students’ rights and responsibilities are outlined in the applicable Student Handbook:

Student Conduct
By enrolling in TCC, students assume responsibility and accountability for their own behavior.
The Student Code of Conduct is designed to promote and protect an environment that encourages reasoned discourse, integrity, intellectual honesty, openness to constructive change, and respect for the rights and responsibilities of all individuals. The purpose of the Student Code of Conduct is to set forth the specific authority and responsibility of the College in maintaining social discipline, to establish guidelines that facilitate a just and civil campus community, and to outline an educational process for determining student/organization responsibility for alleged violations of college regulations. This student conduct process provides fundamental fairness and an educational experience that facilitates student development.

Public Notice of Non-Discrimination
Read our public notice of non-discrimination.
Student Complaint/Grievance Process
Students are encouraged to discuss concerns and complaints with College personnel and should expect a timely and appropriate response.
When possible, students should first address their concerns through informal conferences with those immediately involved. Formal due process is available when a satisfactory outcome cannot be achieved.
If a satisfactory outcome cannot be achieved, students may submit an online Student Complaint/Grievance Form to the employee’s and/or the department's supervisor or academic dean.
If a student is not satisfied with the outcome of the grievance process, they may appeal the outcome to the next level by choosing an appeal level on the online Student Complaint/Grievance Form and submitting the completed form to the appropriate TCC staff member.
Any documents that support the claim should be uploaded and attached to the online form or may be presented at the Level One conference.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.
For more details, see the U.S. Department of Education: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Academic Grade Appeal
Students may petition for review of a grade within 30 calendar days after the first class day of the next long session. Visit the TCC Catalog to learn more about grade reviews and appeals.
Student grades will be evaluated solely on an academic basis, not on opinions or conduct in matters unrelated to academic situations.
