Apply for Your GI Bill®

If you are:

You must request benefits every semester for which you want to use them. We recommend registering early for courses in your degree plan and then submitting your request for benefits shortly after your registration.

Chapter 30, 35, 1606 and 1607 Veterans

To be eligible for full-time benefits, the VA and TCC require:

  • 12 semester hours in a regular semester
  • 4 semester hours for each 6-week summer semester

Chapter 33 Post-9/11 Veterans

Benefits are certified based on rate of pursuit.

In order to receive the Monthly Allowance for Housing (MAH), you must enroll in at least 51% of the hours required to be a full-time student.

The MAH rate for TCC students is based on the zip code of the location where each class is taken. TCC locations span several zip codes.

If you enroll solely in online coursework, your MAH rate will be reduced. Visit the VA for more information on Post-9/11 GI Bill® payment rates.

Certification Process

Certification of VA educational benefits begins at the time registration opens for each term and is processed on a rolling basis.

You should submit your request and paperwork as early as possible to ensure benefit payments are received in a timely manner. Requests are processed in the order they're received from the Hello!TCC request submission, assuming all required paperwork is on file and you have registered for the appropriate classes in your degree plan per VA requirements.
