Program Description
Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) is a specialty area within cardiology.
Cardiac EP technologists perform procedures that examine the heart’s electrical activity and identify causes of arrhythmias. Arrhythmias are irregular heart rhythms—for example, if the heart beats too fast or too slow.
What You Will Learn
- Anatomy, physiology, and structural relationships of the human heart and vascular system
- Cardiac anatomy, electro-cardiology, cardiac hemodynamics, and the innervation of the heart
- Methods of hemodynamic data collection and implications in relation to cardiac diseases
- Best practices by observing and participating cardiac EP procedures during your clinical
experience, including:
- Patient care
- Assessment
- Surgical procedures
- Sterilization processes
Class Format
Our 4-course Cardiac EP program designed to prepare or ready existing healthcare staff for the cardiac EP suite.
You will take:
- 3 lecture / lab courses: delivered in a blended format—combining online and face-to-face activities
- 1 clinical practicum: 250 contact hours of work-based learning under direct supervision of clinical professionals
Eligibility Requirements
For the Cardiac EP program you must:
- Be currently credentials as one of the following:
- Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
- Cardiovascular or Echo Technologist
- Emergency Medical Technologist (EMT)
- Registered Nurse (RN) with Texas licensure
- Get or provide documentation of the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification with the American Heart Association (AHA)

- Register for class.
- Once you have been accepted, you may register for Cardiac EP courses, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
