Types of Aid
Many types of aid first require you to submit your financial aid application via FAFSA.
Grants: Grants are gift aid you're awarded based on your Student Aid Index, which is calculated from your FAFSA. Applying for grants early is always best, but not mandatory.
Scholarships: Scholarships are gifts and do not need to be repaid. There are thousands of them, offered by schools, employers, individuals, nonprofits, communities and social organizations.
Work-Study: Work-study opportunities are based on your eligibility for financial need and allow you to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to your course of study.
Loans: Loans are money you must repay, so be sure you understand your options and responsibilities.
