Academic Status

Academic status is determined by your grade point average (GPA).

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of academic records.

Academic Status Definitions

  • Academic Probation: A student who fails to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
    • May continue to enroll while on Academic Probation
  • Academic Suspension I: A student who fails to maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher while on Academic Probation. Student may opt for Academic Recovery program or sit out one long semester (including summer).
    • Academic Recovery
      • Limit to 1-2 courses
      • Required action plan
      • Required visits with a senior career advisor
      • Failure to meet a 2.0 semester GPA would move student to Academic Suspension II status
    • Students who opt not to enroll for one long semester
      • Must consult with a senior career advisor upon return
      • Returning Suspension I students remain on Academic Suspension I until cumulative GPA reaches "good standing" (cumulative GPA 2.0 or higher)
      • Failure to meet a 2.0 semester GPA moves student to Academic Suspension II status
  • Academic Suspension II: A student who fails to maintain a 2.0 cumulative or semester GPA while on Academic Suspension I.
    • Must sit out for one long semester, including summer
    • Records are activated through the campus Admissions and Registrar Office
    • Required to meet with a senior career advisor upon return
    • Returning Academic Suspension II students remain on Academic Suspension II until GPA improves (good standing)
    • Academic Suspension II students who fail to make a 2.0 semester GPA move to Academic Dismissal status
  • Academic Dismissal: A student who fails to maintain a 2.0 semester GPA while on Suspension II.
    • Must sit out for one calendar year
    • After one calendar year, returning Academic Dismissal students must
      • First visit Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) for readmission
      • Consult with a senior career advisor for development of an Academic Recovery Plan
      • Visit with the campus Admissions and Registrar Office for reactivation
    • Returning Academic Suspension II students remain on Academic Suspension II until GPA improves (good standing)
    • May continue to re-enroll by maintaining a semester GPA of 2.0 or greater
