Do first-time-in-college (FTIC) students have to take the Student Transition to College Success Course (STSC 0111)?
Yes!
If you are a first-time-in-college (FTIC) student who, through the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), is required to take one or more developmental courses, you must:
- Enroll in STSC and
- Successfully complete it with a grade of “C” or better
You are also required to attend New Trailblazer Orientation (NTO).
What is STSC 0111?
STSC-0111: Transition to College Success is a 1-hour noncredit course that teaches important skills to help you become college-ready and succeed.
Topics covered include:
- Memory
- Learning styles
- Strategic learning
- Self-regulation
- Goal setting
- Time management
- Education and career planning
STSC 0111 also covers study techniques:
- Time management
- Listening
- Note taking
- Text marking
- Library and research skills
- Preparing for examinations
- Using learning resources
What if I don’t enroll in STSC during my first semester at TCC?
You will be required to meet with an advisor before you can register for the following semester.
